Goatfell

SUN! Although the sun’s rays don’t quite penetrate the deep bowels of the Flying Duck, I endeavoured to put everyone into a more summery mood with an appropriately seasonal selection of tunes.

So, I hope all you guys and gals have been out making the most of it over the last few days. While you folks were all sketching away on Tuesday, I took a wee trip over to Arran to climb Goatfell and top up my sunburn (sometimes factor 30 isn’t enough, even in Scotland). It’s certainly worth a trip over for the stroll, but make sure you check the return ferry times beforehand, unlike me. A four mile run with a heavy rucksack, and no time for a pint in the sun before jumping on the last boat back wasn’t an ideal way to end the day. Safe to say people were giving my rather sweaty self a wide berth in the ferry bar on the way back. Perhaps a return to a less strenuous pursuit (such as drawing) might be called for next week.

BAND OF THE WEEK: Cat’s Eyes

This week, in between ferry crossings and mountain jaunts, I’ve been giving a fair bit of spinning time to the debut album from Cat’s Eyes; the side project of The Horrors lead singer Faris Badwan and opera singer Rachel Zeffira. A nice bit of reverby, gothy pop (think of a Phil Spector, Broadcast, Camera Obscura soundclash) if that tickles your fancy. They are playing the rather lovely St Andrew’s in the Square on Monday evening- get on down!
