Welcome! You’re here. Come on in.

Monday – Sloan’s overview

Have you been down to one of our drawing sessions in Glasgow? You haven’t? Bah! Well, we would love to see you there. We welcome people of all ages, stages, mindsets. If you fancy a few hours of drawing – you’re in!

Every Monday night of the year you will find our ATYN team hosting a drawing session like no other in Sloan’s Bar and Restaurant. We’re pretty lucky to have this beautiful venue as our base after 6 strong years at The Flying Duck. There’s no need to book your place, although numbers can hit 90 on a busy night, so head down early to make sure you get a good spot. You can arrive any time from 7.45pm and grab a seat. Or arrive late and stand at the back – your call.

There are no tutors and no expectations of our attendees. The club is affordable and you’re free to swan in and out as you please. The bar is always open. Each week we attempt to woo you with our eclectic and often bizarre Naked Jukebox, a custom made playlist for your sketching pleasure. You can listen and subscribe to our weekly playlists here. Do you want to dedicate the soundtrack to someone? Email us your ideas and requests and we’ll see what we can do 😉

Why no teaching?

Drawing is great fun, but we find that amidst a busy working schedule, lots of us are a bit out of practice, and we don’t necessarily want anyone telling us what they think, we just wanna have a scribble and get lost in something simple and pure for a few hours after work. For this reason, we have no teaching at our club, although it’s a pretty relaxed and friendly atmosphere, so if you have any questions, just ask a fellow sketching or a member of staff – they’ll be delighted to help out in any way.

Of course, sometimes we ARE in the mood to learn, so keep an eye out for tutored sessions and special themed events where you can brush up on your skills and have the chance to sketch something really extraordinary.

Who are we?

What is life drawing?

How are we different?

Where we came from/why life drawing?

Our weekly life drawing club started in sunny Glasgow town back in 2008 at the mighty Flying Duck club in Glasgow’s city centre. Joanna Süsskind started the club after finishing a short course in life drawing at The Glasgow School of Art with her animation class mates. Everyone had loved the drawing sessions and wanted to do some more.

Joanna and her team set up in their otherwise empty club room on Tuesday nights. In week 1, there were 8 people sketching, a life model, there were some records spinning and the group had beers in hand. The following week people brought along their pals. Within a few months, word had spread and the drawing club was 40 people strong!
