Life Drawing Online?

How did it come about?

When I first heard that there was a chance we may be going in to "lockdown” in March of 2020, I went in to invention mode and worked alongside a lovely colleague, my husband and our amazing life models all over the world to bring you the most high definition, best version of life drawing that we could offer, that wasn’t in-person. With a background in film and animation, this was a fun challenge for our tiny little team, with many, many sleepless nights and lots of trial and error. We worked directly with our life models over Zoom to teach them how to self-shoot for working online throughout the pandemic. Our models over delivered and ventured out to some amazing and exotic locations for their shoots. We knew that we could deliver a much higher quality session if we shot the videos on professional cameras first, editing and grading the poses and then streaming them out to you in full HD. This means our images are larger and sharper and much better for drawing from than the quality Zoom can accommodate. We had so much fun, met so many amazing people, models, teachers and new friends, and will be forever grateful for the support this life drawing community brought by showing up every week, for almost two years. The maximum number of attendees we had in one session was 500!

How to watch?

The four sessions listed below are direct links to live sessions recorded during the pandemic. Feel free to check them out and draw from them at your leisure. We recommend displaying these on a large screen - its much more difficult to draw from a reference video on a smartphone screen. Laptop or Desktop is ideal and a projector is even better! iPads are great too. Go full screen, if you can, and ensure you have a little distance between your sketch pad and the display. You may also want to scrub along the timeline to the poses and mute the audio if you don’t want to listen to all the pandemic nattering! You can listen to one of our playlists on Spotify here.
